Bhutan: Day 5

After breakfast in Jakar  we drove to the lovely Phobjikha valley, the winter home for the endangered Back Necked Cranes which visit Bhutan from November to February. When we were there it was mid April so luckily there were a few stragglers.

We took a long walk through the valley. It was a beautiful day and certainly some great scenery.

By late afternoon we reached our hotel on a small hillside above the valley. It was the Dewachen Hotel. In Bhutan you pay a flat day rate per person ($200 when we went) and it includes guide, driver, car, food and hotel. The hotels are "standard" class hotels. The Dewachen is pretty typical of standard hotels in Bhutan. They are very clean and simple but exude the feel of the country. The heat came from a pot belly stove. No TV, no Internet but there was electricity for most of the day.
