The next day Pham and a driver picked us up around 8am to drive 2 1/2 hrs into the hills to the Coc Ly market.

This is a smaller market attended primarily by the colorful Tay tribe. They come to the market to buy everything from fabrics and beads, to meats and tobacco.

They also come to the market to eat. Some food you recognize and other food you don’t. There are some tourists and the sellers who sell to them but not all that much. They only know a few words like “Ma’dam, you buy from me?” but that is OK since the only words i know in vietnamese are “khong, cam on” which is “No, thank you”.
